The division of the history of the old, middle and new life




The division of the history of the old, middle and new life - was introduced during the Renaissance in Italy, the Middle
life was a "gloomy" period between the "golden age" of ancient civilizations and
"Resurgence" in the XV. century, the division was introduced by Flavio Biondo but I did not use the term
"Middle Ages", from XVIII. st. (The Age of Enlightenment and faith in progress) historical science
adopted such distinction, but it is completely may be applied only to the history of the West
The Middle Ages - usually is placed between the 476 years. (Collapse of the Western Roman Empire) and
1492 (Columbus's discovery of America), it is a period in which the antique ruins
civilization gradually raised new, European civilization
General characteristics of the Middle Ages:
- Feudal society (the foundation of the economy and society is a country, ie. Fiefdom)
- The emergence of ethnic states (the forerunner of the national state, between them and Croatian)
- The predominance of the Christian faith and Christian values
- The ancient heritage (Latin, classical works, Roman law)
The division of the Middle Ages:
- Early - from V to XI. century
- Developed (high) - XI - XIII. st.
- Late - XIV. and XV. st.
Early Middle Ages: the migration of the peoples of Europe, deterioration and distortion of ancient culture and
institutions, the formation of the barbarian state, Beginnings feudal society, the decay of cities and
trade, low level of production (no surplus), the Church remains the only institution that holds
literacy and culture, relatively few written sources (so called "dark age")
